Description

Shilaidah is an area located in Kumarkhali Upazila of Kushtia District in southwestern Bangladesh. Kuthibari is located here, where the memory of poet Rabindranath Tagore is enshrined. Rabindranath spent a significant part of his youth here. Padma river flows by Shilaidah Kuthibari. Shilaidah is a village of Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia district. The former name of the village is Khorshedpur near the river Padma. Rabindranath's grandfather Prince Dwarkanath Tagore got the zamindari of this region in 1807. Later in 1889, Rabindranath Tagore came here as a zamindar. Here he managed the zamindari till 1901. At this time he wrote his famous books Sonar Tari, Chitra, Chaitali, Gitanjali etc. while sitting here. Jagadish Chandra Bose, Dwijendralal Roy, Pramath Chowdhury and many others came to meet Rabindranath here.

How to go:

Rabindranath's cottage is about 20 kilometers from Kushtia city. From Kushtia city, you can easily and very cheaply go to Shilaidah Kuti by auto rickshaw, CNG and easy bike and other vehicles.
