Tajhat Zamindar's house
Description
Tajhat Zamindar's house is located in a picturesque environment surrounded by green plants near the present Agricultural Institute, about 4 miles east-south from Rangpur Museum. In front of the zamindar house there are 4 ponds of huge shape excavated in contemporary times. The main entrance of the zamindar house can be reached by crossing the main gate from the north side of the present Tajhat Bazar and gradually passing a few hundred yards to the west. The real founder of this clan was Mannanlal Roy. He came from distant Punjab to trade gold in Mahiganj, a rich place of Rangpur. It is known from the history book of ancient Rangpur that Mannanlal Roy came to Mahiganj in Rangpur for diamond, jewelry and gold business. At first he traded various kinds of famous and expensive diamonds, manik jeweled crowns or hats. For the purpose of selling said crowns, a market was established here which later gained great fame and this zamindarbari was named Tajhat Zamindar Bari based on this Tajhat.
