Mujibnagar Memorial
Description
The memorial consists of 23 triangular walls. which are arranged in a circular manner. 23 Walls [August 1947] to [March 1971] – These 23 years have been used as symbols of freedom movement. The first wall is 9 feet 9 inches high and 20 feet long. Each subsequent wall is progressively increased by 1 foot in length and 9 inches in height. By which means Bangladesh fought for its freedom for 9 months. The end wall is 25 feet 6 inches high and 42 feet long. There are numerous holes in each wall which are displayed as a sign of the atrocities committed by the Pakistani regime.
The altar, 2 feet 6 inches above the ground of the memorial, has numerous round circles representing the skulls of 1 lakh intellectuals.
The altar, 3 feet above the ground of the memorial, has numerous stones expressing historical commitment and commemoration in honor of 3 million martyrs and mothers. The 19 lines in the middle of the stones denote the 19 districts of the then East Pakistan.
There are 11 steps to climb to the altar of the memorial. By which the entire Bangladesh was divided into 11 sectors during the liberation war.
The road to the main gate of the memorial touches the slope called the Sea of Blood of the main memorial. Here the road is used in the symbolic sense of language movement.
How to go-
There is direct bus connection with the capital city. There is inter-district bus connectivity. Direct buses are available from Gabtali and Syedabad bus terminals to travel to Meherpur district. The fare of non AC bus is Tk 450 to Tk 500 and in case of AC bus it is Tk 800 to 1200.
The distance from Meherpur district headquarters to Mujibnagar Amrakanan by road is 18 km: m:. Historical Amrakanan can be reached in 30m with the help of bus, local transport Tempu/Lachiman/Kariman. Bus fare from Meherpur Sadar is Tk 25-30
